So lately I have been feeling very self conscious about my body. I am approximately 5'8 and 115 pounds, which to many would be labeled as "skinny." I am not denying that I am skinny, but I don't feel HEALTHY. People just don't seem to understand that it doesn't matter how much you weigh. You can be 100 pounds and not be healthy and you can also be 300 pounds and not be healthy. What matters is what you consume and how you choose to excercise your body.
During my junior year of high school, I was on a health streak. I ate healthy, only drank water, and worked out about two hours a day at the gym. Everyone saw the body transformation I was in and I just FELT healthy. I was able to wake up early with no complaints and I felt motivated to do so much more. Once I left my gym, I lost all my motivation. I am not sure if it was because I was so tired from two jobs and finishing up school or what. All I know is that my eating habits are back to what they have always been and I don't like it. I have been trying to get back on a health kick for a while because for my career, you always need to be in the best shape possible. Unfortunately, growing up in an Italian family, being able to stay on a health streak isn't always an option....
But today, February 9th, there will be no more excuses. The past few months, after I eat meat or junk food, I feel miserable and groggy. I am choosing to no longer feel that way, and I am doing that by going on a STRICTLY LACTO- OVO VEGETARIAN DIET. I am going to try it for a week, and see how my body reacts. I am pretty nervous because I always have cravings, especially with the medicines I do take. But I will make no excuses. I have been doing my research and I have found some delicious vegetarian meals that I am going to try out. Every day I will edit this blog post with what I ate that day and how my body feels. Wish me luck!
February 9, 2016:
Woke up early for my 8AM course, and I actually had a good night sleep. I went to bed around midnight, which for me is pretty early. Looking to start going to bed earlier. Felt very energized for my 8AM. I have classes back to back from 8-3:40 and I wasn't as groggy as I usually am halfway through the day.
Breakfast: Peanut Butter Sandwich on Whole Wheat Bread/Ritz Crackers/Water
Lunch: Orzo Pasta, hand scoop of Honey Nut Cheerios/Water
Dinner: Caesar Side Salad, Baked Potato with Smart Balance Butter/Water
*I was able to jog on the treadmill for 30 minutes... I like watching TV shows while I am onthe treadmill. I ended it with 100 squats. I was moving boxes up and down stairs for about an hour, and went to bed at 10:45PM
I woke up about three times during the night, but I was able to go right back to bed. I didn't wake up as early as I wanted to, 10AM, but I definitely had more motivation to get out of bed than I normally do, so that is a good start. I decided to walk everywhere I needed to go today. I walked from my house to my old middle school to drop off some papers, then walked to the town marketplace and picked up some potato gnocchis with vodka sauce. I walked all the way back home. After that long walk, I felt extremely accomplished and was very excited to eat my meal. I bought a small plastic container of potato gnocchi's, only heating up half of them, and saving the other half for dinner. The gnocchis were amazing and it made me extremely full, but full in a good way, not in a disgusted way. I drank water with it. I also feel motivated to start homework earlier, as well as my assigned chores.
Lunch: 10 pieces of potato gnocchi/Water
Dinner: Caesar Salad/Half a Vegetarian Club Sandwich
Snack: 5 more gnocchis/Gatorade/Ritz Crackers
*After dinner, my stomach did not hurt at all (Like it usually does after dinner) and I was able to paint my basement with my father for 3 hours with no stops or complaints. I rewarded myself with the Snack, which I 50% regret because I am currently up at 1:00 AM editing my blog haha. Overall, I am starting to feel a lot HAPPIER.
February 11, 2016:
I woke up about 10 o'clock again, TIred, but definitely not as tired as I have been in the past. I went to the mall with a couple of friends and I decided to get myself a slice of regular cheese pizza. It was good, but I noticed I wasn't as satisfied with my meal as much as I am when I am eating a healthy salad. Went food shopping by myself for the first time (Big Girl Moves) and I got a apples, peaches, juices, 0% Fat Yogurts, Milk, Lettuce, Cheese, 100% Fruit fruit snacks, carrots and I think that's it. I was very satisfied with my purchase. I later brought my best friend Wendy's on her break, and I was able to buy her chicken nuggets and fries with ZERO urge to want to get soemthing fot myself. I had some frozen yogurt with her and then later helped my dad clean up the house and practiced my walk for NYFW.
Dinner: Cookies N Cream Fro-Yo (Had no desire to eat anything for dinner)
February 12, 2016
I couldn't fall asleep last night, but probably because I have so much on my mind with school and work and everything. But, even at that, I was able to wake up for my 8AM but it was wayyyy too cold so I decided to give myself an hour extra of sleep instead. It was definitely helpful. I don't have cravings as much and I am a lot more awake in the morning and more productive.
Breakfast: Caesar Salad/Water
Snacks: Granny Smith Apple, Carrots
Lunch: (Breakfast was also my lunch due to class schedule)
Dinner: Pizza Hut Pizza... Small personal pan cheese pizza... ( A girl gotta live, right?!)
February 13, 2016
I went to bed relatively early last night and I woke up around 10 am today. I was super busy getting last second things prepared for tomorrow's fashion show and I barely ate. My nerves are so real for tomorrow that I really lacked an appetite. I at least got to spend time with my best friend Mel, where we watched How to Be Single and then went to Ruby Tuesday's for an early Valentine's Day dinner.
Lunch: Raisin Bran Cereal
Dinner: Caesar Salad and Pasta
Today was the definition of HECTIC. I had to drive an hour away from home to a town called Hazlet for a photoshoot, which lasted till 3. Right from there, I left for NYC to get my hair and makeup ready for the fashion show I was walking in NYFW. I had no time to eat at all until all my work was over, which was around 9pm. I was tired, but I definitely was more energized than I thought I would be after such a long day.
Breakfast: Toast and Water
Breakfast: Small cup of Mac n Cheese from Panera
Dinner: Greek Wrap and gave the chicken to my mom to add to her wrap
OVERALL: Overall, I have really learned to love to lacto ovo vegetarian diet. I have not felt light headed or week even ONCE through the whole experience, and I felt a lot healthier and more energetic than I've ever felt before. I felt more motivated to do more things and even though I do get random cravings for meat every once in a while, I have decided that I will continue to stick with the lacto ovo vegetarian diet for as long as I possibly can. Hope you all enjoyed my daily blog post! xo
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
