So, Thanksgiving Break is coming to an end, and if you are like me, I feel like every Thanksgiving Break means the end to the semester.... BUT IT IS NOT. The fact the semester isn't over, yet I feel like it is, stresses me out. I literally do not want to do ANYTHING. My stress is slowly starting to build up, the reality that I only have a few more weeks to boost my grades up... it is all starting to make me want to give up on EVERYTHING. But, with these few tips, I have managed to get over this hump every fall semester.
Buy a planner or even just use a loose leaf piece of paper and write out/organize all your homework and assignments that need to be done. Color Code each assignment by subject. Carve out 1-2 hours a day to work on projects that are due before the end of the semester so you are not struggling to finish it all the night before. I like to act like things are due a week before things are actually do, so I get myself to do things sooner, yet I still have time to edit it if needed.
Meet with Your Teachers
If you are struggling or have ANY questions for a certain class, make an appointment with your teacher or professor. Talk to them about your concerns and I promise you, they will give you the time to talk to you on your options. They may not always give you extra points, but they will appreciate the fact you took the time to visit them during their office hours. It shows them that you care about what they are teaching, which makes them feel special.... and everyone likes to feel special, AM I RIGHT?
Don't skip class
With that being said, don't meet with a teacher or professor and then never show up to class again till finals. Teachers notice when you aren't attending class, and that is not a good look if you are trying to get a better grade. Eat a healthy snack and drink water before you go to class, and try not to look at your phone during the lecture or class. The less distractions, the more likely you are to pay attention. Take that time in class to ask any questions you may have. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP.
Find a study group
Even if you don't understand the lesson after going to class, get a group of your classmates together and help each other study for the next exam! Set up time within the week to get together at the library and answer each others questions. I also like to share a Google Doc with a group of people, and everyone writes their notes into the Google Doc so that everyone can see what everyone else has been taking notes on. If you aren't close to anyone in your class, ask your teacher or professor if there are any tutors that are with the school that can help you.
Take time for yourself
Personally, I believe this is the most important. Not only make time to do your school work, but also make sure you make it a priority to make time for YOURSELF. Give yourself a couple of hours each night to unwind, watch TV and just RELAX. The more you strain yourself, the worst off you are going to be.
Also, remember that in less than a month, you will be back to celebrating the holiday with all your close ones! So take this time now to focus on your studies as well as your personal health.
